Factory Roof Demolition
Talos General Construction was engaged as part of an emergency response team when a Cement Mill roof collapsed. The unexpected partial roof collapse of the cement mill posed a great risk to people and equipment, therefore, the first critical task was to inspect and investigate the collapsed section. Consequently, a methodology best suited for the situation was derived and it was crucial to mitigate any further risk.
The inspection confirmed that the primary support component of the structure had to be supported and braced. Therefore, a 250T mobile crane was stationed supporting the girder truss, while erected scaffold also supported the other trusses and covered the essential equipment of the cement mill.
Talos technicians would approach the area in the man-basket and a rigger would direct the second mobile crane close to the technician who subsequently attached any loose sections of the roof and hoist it away. It was of great importance to ensure that wrong sections will not be pulled out and disturb the equilibrium as this had potential to cause a second collapse.
