Scaffold Erection in Confined Space

Introduction As part of the silo reinforcement project, Talos Group had to access the silo walls from the ground to top of 6.85m diameter, 25m high cement silos. The reinforcement process required technicians and workers to be working close to the surface of the silo for a prolonged time. Therefore, the most suitable was approach [...]

Air slides repairs inside silos

Introduction After a series of delays in extracting agricultural lime from the silos, Talos General Construction was engaged by the Client to repair the air slides which were worn out and clogged. Work Performed Silo cleaning Opening all the air slides Removing and replacing worn-out and clogged filter bags. Pressure test Scope A cement manufacturing [...]

Installation of Monitoring Instruments

Introduction Infrastructure that is close to the end of its design life should be regularly inspected for any defects, cracks or possible structural failure. These inspections or monitoring can be done periodically or continuously. The latter can be made possible using a data logger supporting vibrating wire and geotechnical sensors. Data loggers automatically monitor and [...]

Cement Silo Unblocking

Introduction A cement plant with a relatively old silo system required the emptying of an overfill cement silo. The overfill cement silo formed by the connection of four silos had not been used in several years. This resulted in the caking of the cement and therefore blocking its discharge system. Work Performed Modification of the [...]

Roof Cleaning

Introduction Talos General Construction, under Talos Group, was engaged by a cement plant to clean its roof for a Cement Mill roof after a collapse. The unexpected partial roof collapse of the cement mill prompted the immediate Roof Cleaning. Work Performed Structural inspection of the roof and desk study Derive methodology Clearing of waste material [...]

What Exactly Do We Do with Rope Access?

What Exactly Do We Do with Rope Access? Rope Access is a technique for accessing hard-to-reach areas using ropes and specialized equipment, without the need for large scaffolding or platforms. It is primarily used in high-risk areas or locations that are difficult to reach by other means. This is a safe and effective method that [...]

Silos Maintenance Works: Ensuring Longevity and Efficiency

Silos Maintenance Works: Ensuring Longevity and Efficiency Proper care and maintenance of silos are critical for ensuring their longevity, operational efficiency, and safety. Silos Maintenance Works should not be underestimated, as neglected silos can lead to structural damage, contamination, and costly downtime. By investing in regular inspections and upkeep, businesses can protect their investments and [...]

Silo Stabilization

As part of the silo strengthening project Talos General Construction had to stabilize 6 silos after carrying out structural inspections and found out that 2 of the 6 were in the brink of collapsing. The 2 silos were immediately decommissioned. After careful analysis by the Talos engineering, it was to secure all the six silos [...]

Roof Cladding in a factory

Subsequent to the roof cleaning project done by Talos General Construction, there was need for changing the roof sheet since most of them were corroded and leaking. The cladding project also included the section which had collapsed due to the increased dead load (accumulated cement and clinker dust material) on the roof.

Silo Roof Reinforcement

As part of the silo strengthening project done by Talos General Construction, silo roof required reinforcing since there was evidence of cracks on the roof. Repair strategy involved introduction of steel beams running perpendicular to the existing roof beams. The two new steel sections were supported on both the old and the new silo shell. [...]

Factory Roof Demolition

Talos General Construction was engaged as part of an emergency response team when a Cement Mill roof collapsed. The unexpected partial roof collapse of the cement mill posed a great risk to people and equipment, therefore, the first critical task was to inspect and investigate the collapsed section. Consequently, a methodology best suited for the [...]

Silo Strengthening Project

Talos General Construction was appointed by one of the biggest cement factories in Zimbabwe to strengthen 4 cement silos which were showing signs of structural failure. The process involved reinforcing the shell of the silo by introducing an internal wall of reinforced shotcrete concrete. This increased the life span and stabilized the silos.

Silo Monitoring Equipment

Talos General Construction was engaged by the biggest cement manufacturing company from Zimbabwe to carry out structural inspections, stabilization and strengthening of cement silos. Talos engineers had to ensure that no further damage would occur to the silos during the project execution. Therefore, a sisgeo system was installed on the silos to monitor any movements [...]

Air-Slide Canvas Repairs

A cement manufacturing company engaged Talos General Construction to work at its lime plant where they were having difficulties drawing lime because of clogged and worn-out filter bags. The latter caused the plant to incur increased energy consumption because it had to use more energy to push the lime through. In addition to that, they [...]
